In memory of Freya

We are fundraising for the family of brave Freya Westerman. She tragically passed away yesterday from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia aged just 7. This page has been set up by the friends of Freya and her family. We are raising money to help the family cover the costs of the funeral and to give the family the financial security so they have time to grieve properly. Freya was first diagnosed in 2012 and fought bravely and went into remission ready to start reception class in Alne Primary School.
 In her 3 years of remission she threw herself into everything life offered. She enjoyed kick boxing, dancing, brownies, horse riding she had such a zest for life and loved animals- collecting a small menagerie of her own.
 As everyone who knew Freya will say, to know her was to love her. Her loss is an indescribable tragedy for her family and tremendously painful for the very wide circle of friends who flocked to her. The whole community was blessed with her life and it has been devastated by her death. Freya's smile would light up a room, not only when she was well but when she was ill too, as she was for so much of her short life. Despite this she bore her illness and treatment with courage, with patience and with humour. She brought joy into the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have known her. While we are all still numb we think of Denise and AJ and also Alex, her loving big brother, who are having to start the long and painful path of having to come to terms with Freya's passing. Few of us will be able to imagine a more difficult journey but we will all want to do everything we can to help them with it. During Freya's long illness and difficult treatment, Denise and AJ have of course focused their time and energy on her. This means that in addition to dealing with the emotional consequences of her loss, they are worrying about how they are going to cope financially, including to provide Freya with the sort of funeral we would all want for our loved ones. We have set up this page to give everyone who knew Freya and who know Denise, AJ and Alex the opportunity to help ease their financial burden while they start the process of trying to heal the emotional wounds which this terrible loss has inflicted upon them.
