Saving mothers and babies lives

Moms and babies unnecessarily die every day in Myanmar, the former Burma.  The majority of babies are born in homes with Traditional Birth Attendants who are doing the best they can with no resources, formal training or a doctor who she can refer to.  Most common causes of death:     Moms:  postpartum hemorrhage
     Babies: prematurity and birth trauma

With proper training and resources, most of these moms and babies don't have to die!

I have been going to Myanmar for 3 years providing mobile medical care with FAME, an international medical mission.  As a Certified Nurse Midwife for over 30 years, I have a heart for moms, babies and the women who help them with their birth experience. The first picture is a mom who is having her 5th baby and is hearing a baby's heart beat for the first time.   I have sat with both professional midwives and traditional birth attendants. The second picture is some of the midwives I met with last year.  I have listened to their stories.  They desperately want training.  Now is the time to bring them the training and resources they so desperately need and desire.

I am leaving Sept. 21st for Myanmar and will be hosting a midwifery conference in the capital city of Yangon and a second conference in a more remote location.  We anticipate approximately 25 midwives, nurses and traditional birth attendants at each conference.  These women have no resources to get them to the conference.  I need $2000 for each of the two conference to transport, house and feed the midwives.  I am also preparing a birth kit that will include basic things such as gloves, a stethescope, B/P cuff, fetoscope, rehydration packets, thermometer, scissors and life saving medications for postpartum hemorrhage.  I need your help.  I have partnered with FAME.  They are making all the logistical arrangements.  All of the money raised will go directly to the cost of the conferences and the birth kits.  All donations can be made to FAME and are tax deductible.  Thank you for your support.  Before you go to bed tonight, give you child a hug and kiss and never take for granted the blessing that both of you survived your birth experience.
