Replace Ashbourne's town bunting
Donation protected
ASHBOURNE's eight miles of bunting, which has provided a backdrop to town celebrations for decades, could be under threat due to a lack of support.
A tiny group of volunteers stores, repairs, erects and takes down the bunting each year – and they say they need to find more than £4,000 urgently to repair faded and worn sections of the bunting and replace some of the flags that are put up alongside it.
Help is also required for the few nights each year when the team take to the streets to hang up the bunting and 200 flags.
Previously, the group has paid for repairs and replacements by carrying out their own fund-raising and appealing for help from groups such as Ashbourne Town Council – which recently donated £280.
A new length of bunting would be expected to last around five years but other maintenance tasks, such as replacing hooks and flag-holders, also need funding.
