Sequoia’s fund for Play Well Africa, Inc.

Play Well Africa founder Sequoia Slentz died on May 16, 2022. It was his last wish that 1,600 pounds of donated LEGO stored in California be shipped to Uganda and that the schooling of three children he sponsored in the country be continued.

In 2012, Sequoia and his son Micah started Play Well Africa after Micah, then only 6, said he wanted to send LEGO sets to kids in Africa who didn’t have any. In 2015, the nonprofit gained national media attention and LEGO donations poured in.

Sequoia and his family traveled to Uganda many times with Micah, his younger son Logan, his wife Leslie, and other supporters. They brought more than 4,000 pounds of LEGO to families and schools there and in other countries on the continent. To date, PWA has provided some 6,000 children, who previously had no toys or learning tools, with the opportunity to play with LEGO on a regular basis.

While in Uganda, Sequoia sponsored schooling for a number of children, including Esther and Veronica, whom he regarded as his daughters. This fundraiser will ensure:

• The children Sequoia sponsored will be able to finish schooling
• The 1,600 pounds of LEGO in California will reach children in Uganda who will dramatically benefit from it
• Play Well Africa will be able to continue in Sequoia’s memory

• $1000 - Pays for one year of tuition as well as room and board for one of Sequoia’s adopted daughters (They have a combined 16 years of schooling remaining)
• $600 - Ships 100 pounds of LEGO to rural Uganda
• $6 - Even a donation of this amount will fund shipment of one pound of LEGO and change a child’s life
