Rob and Tom do Pompeii or bust in a in cheap van!

So what's this about then? Well, we bought a van for the massive sum off £500 and have entered in the Pompeii or Bust 2019 banger challenge.


The idea is that we have to take our chosen cheap chariot from St Austell, Cornwall and make it to Pompeii in Italy. The journey will see us taking the ferry from Plymouth, over to Roscoff in France, and then head south for Italy through the French Alps. The trip will be somewhere between 1500-2000 miles.


We've chosen a theme that takes a twist from Only Fools and Horses, a comedy we both enjoy greatly. Tom will be dressing up and acting like Delboy, where as I will be taking on the character of Rodney.


So what will Delboy and Rodney be getting up to on this journey? Well anything could happen! There will be a lot more for us to do than just drive from place to place. We have a lot of challenges that we will have to complete each day. They will be set and given to us by our team leader every evening when we check in at the campsites. But what will they be this year... Only time will tell!


This year we have chosen to raise funds for Porthleven Town Band (Charity number 900529). It is a charity close to both our hearts. I am one of the Tuba players and the Vice Chairman for the main band, and Tom is the conductor the main band and the training band.


We are raising for the training band and band builder's arm of the band. The band builders program and training band provides musical education to children and young people for free. They are taught how to read music, and how to play music, and given an instrument to practice on. The Band Builders program is very popular and is currently educating around 20 children from within the community and surrounding areas.


We hope to raise enough money for which the band builders program can be bought some replacement beginner instruments (which can vary from £150 to well over £500 a go depending on the type) and possibly some new percussion equipment for the Training Band.
