Help Chris & Family Get Through Stage IV Cancer

Donation protected
Chris Moger, a 47-year-old father of three from Oyster Bay, NY, was diagnosed with stage IV esophageal cancer in November 2018.  With no prior health issues, Chris’s diagnosis was a shattering blow to their family.  Chris is a caring husband, a loving and involved father, devoted son, and friend; someone with a kind heart who is always willing to lend a hand.  He and his wife, Janine, have tried to keep things as normal as possible for their children, ages 3, 8, and 16.  This illness has been a tremendous blow to their family.

Chris has tried everything from mainstream treatments to integrative therapies.  He has undergone radiation and has ongoing chemotherapy treatments three out of four weeks each month.  The integrative therapies, many of which have been tremendously helpful with Chris’s quality of life, are not covered under their health insurance plan.  Additional, ongoing bills are accumulating.  As the previous sole provider, their family has had to make countless sacrifices in order to make ends meet.

Background:
Chris was diagnosed with a kidney stone on 8/25, his and Janine’s 11th wedding anniversary.  The emergency room doctor sent him for a CT scan to make sure there were no other stones and saw that there was something unusual in the liver that was probably nothing.  Chris was told to get it checked out after passing the stone.  But after the stone passed, he was diagnosed with shingles the next week.  Chris spent several weeks recovering before beginning several more weeks of various tests to figure out what else was going on with his health.  This led to his unexpected cancer diagnosis.  The cancer has spread beyond his esophagus to his stomach, one adrenal gland, his liver, and assorted muscular and soft tissue areas around the shoulders and hips.

Current Condition:
Within the last two months, Chris’s health has significantly declined.  Chris continues a chemotherapy regime with three weekly doses each month.  He has lost a considerable amount of weight and physical strength.  Recently, Chris was unable to swallow foods and was hospitalized to have an esophageal stent placed.  The stent, which has allowed him to manage to eat soft foods, has come with its own set of problems.  He was re-hospitalized for issues related to the stent following his initial discharge.  He is in a considerable amount of pain.  Chris is now home, but is on a severely restrictive diet, as he can only ingest smoothies, soft soups, and liquids at this time.

In Need of Support:
Asking for help is never easy… The Moger family is grateful for the support of their friends and family.  However, they are alone in the countless unexpected expenses and long-term strain that comes along with a diagnosis of advanced cancer.  Chris continued to work after his diagnosis, despite his declining health, until his most recent hospital stay.  After over 25 years of working in the financial industry, Chris unable to work at this time.  Janine is the sole caregiver for Chris, managing his appointments, treatments, and alternative therapies, while taking care of their young children.

Chris’s family needs financial assistance in order to maintain the ongoing medical therapies necessary to keep Chris as comfortable as possible, with the best possible quality of life.  Please consider making a generous one-time or ongoing donation if you are able.  Every bit helps.  Contributions of any size are welcome.  Additionally, sharing this page can help the Moger family during this difficult time.  Prayers are always appreciated and welcome.  Thank you for your generosity and support at this time.
