Goanna Academy Fundraiser

Donation protected
The Goanna Academy exists to remove the stigma around mental health, and improve social capacity to identify, discuss, and manage mental health for all Australians - especially at-risk groups such as Youth, Regional Males, and First Nations communities.  To reach more Australians, we need your help!

According to a recent poll by The Age & The Sydney Morning Herald:
  • 82% of young Australians (16-24) experienced mental health issues in the last two years
  • 49% of Australians aged 25+ experienced mental health issues in the last two years
  • Anxiety symptoms were the most common, followed by symptoms of depression and an eating disorder
  • 25% of respondents aged 16-24 said they had contemplated suicide; 15% of which attempted self-harm

Clearly, there is a lot to be done for mental health in Australia, especially in light of the recent bushfires, floods, and the ongoing pandemic. All donations received by the Goanna Academy will directly fund our key areas of work: Preventative Strategies and Mental Health Education within Schools, Regional Communities and Workplaces.

People living in regional Australia commit suicide at 1.2-2.4 times the rate of people who live in major Australian cities. Within NSW, only 9% of psychiatrists have their main practice outside of major cities, despite 25% of residents living in these areas. Because of this, our Goanna Academy community clinics focus on regional Australia. These clinics will always remain completely free for all participants, so any donations will help us conduct more of these where they are needed most.

Running our activity is not cheap. The logistics of running a clinic (set-up, travel, equipment, permits, food & bev etc) can cost over $30,000 depending on the location and community involvement. Your generous donations will directly impact our ability to conduct more clinics.

About Goanna Academy:
Greg Inglis’ Goanna Academy is the first ever First Nations owned mental health social enterprise in Australia and is Supply Nation accredited. Our evidence-informed programs are endorsed by headspace, the National Youth Mental Health Foundation funded by the Australian Government, and focus on building social capacity through preventative measures and encouraging help-seeking behaviours through story sharing and best practice mental health education. Our evaluation partners include the University of Newcastle and Wollotuka Institute, and we employ independent evaluators to assess the extent to which our programs are achieving their objectives and having a positive impact against key indicators.
