Storm Atiya tore through our preparations for Santa’s Grotto on the Green 2019 on 6th December and left us with significant damage to our marquees. With winds forecast to be even worse on Sunday, with the heaviest of hearts we were compelled to cancel the event and pack everything away until next year. The scores of volunteers who had contributed to the creation of this favourite local community fundraiser were left in tatters too!

Returning to our community hut the following day, we were greeted with the evidence of a break-in and were horrified to find that all of Santa’s presents- 600 in all, our catering equipment, provisions, heater and light display had been stolen overnight.

We have been looking at your suggestions about ways we can raise funds to replace the items stolen and have opted to set up a Go Fund Me page that we hope will be successful in going some way to pay for the lost equipment, provisions and the presents themselves. We lost one marquee in the winds and suffered damage to another and we would like to be able to repair or replace these items. To protect against further losses we would like to install an alarm system. The Santa’s Grotto is our major fundraiser each year and we have suffered a significant loss of income because of the cancellation. The funds raised would normally enable us to carry out our events and activities programme throughout the year and support our volunteer groups maintaining and improving the park for our visitors. We also improve the environment for the park wildlife and hold regular Frome Fairies sessions clearing plastics and debris from the River Frome which passes through the park. We hope that those of you who wish to support us in this way will find the process quite simple and can donate knowing that your contributions will be so welcome and get us back on our feet doing what we do best: working to bring everyone together for a common purpose, bring lasting benefits to our wonderful park and continue to have lots of fun while we're doing it!
