Everest in the Outback

Have you ever dreamed of an EPIC challenge and wondered if it was even possible to achieve?

Have you ever considered the words, "if it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you"?

I have.

I have spent the last 19 years challenging myself in various adventures - marathons, ultra-marathons, adventure races and mountain bike races.

I have crossed numerous finish lines with the satisfaction of achieving a goal and have also experienced the disappointments and sense of failure when I don't.

I have found new limits by pushing the old ones.   I have learnt that if you never chase what you want, you will never get it.  If you never ask, the answer is always no.  If you never step forward, you will always be in the same place.

I don't want to always be in the same place.  I want to continually grow and change and be challenged.

Last year I spent a lot of time away from Mount Isa studying.  It surprised me how much I missed my home town.  I missed the community.  I missed the way of life.  I missed my people.

It was time to ADVENTURE at home.  The idea of doing a Project Everest, as a team event,  has been on my mind for a number of years, but finding the right person to get approval from, is no easy feat.

One afternoon whilst trudging up and down Telstra Hill, my mind turned to doing it solo.  I went home and did the calculations - 110 laps (at least) for the 8848m vertical elevation of Everest.  This equated to 200km, on bitumen, on 1 hill and at least 35-40 hours.    Doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun, but the idea had germinated and wouldn't stop growing.

In January I messaged my coach, hoping to be told, don't be ridiculous,  so I could give up on this crazy idea.  That didn't happen.

I ignored his message that it was a "totally crazy idea that I love" for two days.   I ignored that message until he came back and told me "you know I would tell you if I thought it was totally beyond you."

I believed; Andy believed - that was all I needed to commit.

So almost 6 months later, Project Everest, Everest in the Outback,  the Crazy, STUPID (Stupendous, Tremendous, Unreal, Phenomenal, Inspiring Daring) Challenge is ON..........in less than 2 weeks.

Starting at 7.00am on the 21 June 2019, I am attempting to do 110 repeats of Telstra Hill and reach the elevation of Everest, all 8848m of it.

Now, I believe if you are going to try and achieve something silly (but EPIC), you may as well do it for a cause and the North West Queensland Mental Health Network is my cause.  Funds shall be  withdrawn by me personally and then provided to the North West Queensland Mental Health Network by cheque.  The funds shall be delivered as soon as this GoFundMe page allows me to withdraw them - this is an inefficient and tiresome process, and has taken a lot longer than anticipated, with limited contact from GoFundMe.

It bothers me that there are so many people in our world, young and old, that are struggling every day.  So many people who feel lonely and disconnected; so many who feel they have little options to make their life better; so many who feel that their life is not worth living.

I don't want anyone's struggles to go unnoticed.

We need to change our world, we need to make a difference, we need to reach out and help.

Feel free to join me for a lap or two, donate some dollars to the cause and join me for a conversation – I will have plenty of time to listen.  You just may not get much response

I DON'T WANT TO BELIEVE IT IS POSSIBLE, I WANT TO KNOW.....
