Here's the letter I sent to Sperry Top-Siders:
Good afternoon,
Approximately 8 months ago I purchased the Authentic Original Boat Shoe from Sperry Top-Sider. I have treated them very well over these past few months and don’t wear them excessively. Unfortunately, despite my extreme care for my shoes, today the stitching on the front of my shoe began to come undone. I’m extremely disappointed by the shoddy quality of this shoe; I expect for my shoes, especially ones that I invest a large sum of money in, to stay in tact for more than a year, let alone eight months.It is clear the damage of my shoe occurred for no apparent reason other than poor manufacturing. I would greatly appreciate some sort of compensation for this burden.
They said that if I sent my shoes in to them they would send me a new pair if and only if they decided by their own vague and undisclosed standards that I deserved a new pair. If I send in my shoes who knows if I will get them back or if I will get a new pair, and even if I did send them in, I would have to pay for shipping.
THIS IS WHY I AM ASKING YOU TO DONATE TO MY CAUSE. EVERY $50/$60 DOLLARS COUNTS TOWARDS ME GETTING A NEW PAIR OF BOAT SHOES. I USE ALL THE MONEY FOR THIS CAUSE I WONT BE SENDING IT TO POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT!
Please help make this right. I am devastated and it's apparent that my fellow students at my university are starting to discredit my preppiness. Please, Sperry, help this New Englander out and show some sympathy; don't allow me to be cast away as a social pariah. I beg of you. I am genuinely saddened by this
