Damaged Garden Fund

All donations will go to a gym regular who's lawn got vandalized by drunk students on their way home from the bar. The damage was not extremely extensive, which is why I originally set the target low. I know this man and he would not want a lot of money, but enough to fix it and maybe even some extra would be a nice apology from us students. However, students have requested that I keep the donations open for longer, so I have done so. Everything happens for a reason and maybe this is all part of something bigger that we can do for him. Overheard: A gym regular (older gentlemen) coming in all disgruntled and upset for his workout … “I am so upset… Some frosh students walked past my house last week and the neighbor had some shovels on his driveway… well they took them and dug big holes in my lawn… I went to the cops, they don’t care, I went to the university, they won’t do anything either…. I love the students, you know how much I love them and give to them, why would they do this to me?” I didn’t have an answer for him.
Here is what the students who did this probably didn’t know about my friend… They probably didn’t know that he goes to the gym in order be able to take care of his severely disabled adult son, who requires around the clock care. He is the primary medical caregiver of his son and considering that his son is mostly deaf, blind, and completely wheelchair bound, unable to move pretty much his entire body, his father is the one who moves him into bed, bathes him, etc. They probably didn’t know that my friend has been caring for his son for 30 years with not one holiday or break besides the occasional few hours provided by nurses while he runs errands or goes to the gym. They probably didn’t know that the reason why he works out at our gym is because he loves students, and he treats them all like the “normal” son that he never had. They surely didn’t know that any student could knock on this man's door and say that they didn’t have enough to eat and he would bring them in and feed them a good meal and that he has done so for other gym regulars many times... They likely didn’t know how that new pathway they walk on everyday to class came partly out of his pocket, as he has been donating to the university for years… And they surely didn’t know that one of my friend’s true passions is his garden and his lawn that THEY ruined…. This meant a lot to him and not only hurt him in a very big and personal way, but also cost him money to fix… money that he could have used for his son.
