I am a transgender, autistic, Deaf, awesome woman.
I work as a rabbi, focusing on creating innovative yet traditional Jewish law, liturgy, and ritual, in order to celebrate and affirm trans identities and experiences. I also work on advocating for people with both visible and invisible disabilities in both Jewish and secular contexts. My first book, Ein Self, a collection of personal essays and poetry exploring my transition so far, has just been published!
I am planning to have vaginoplasty in early 2014. While no surgery is "necessary" to change genders, this surgery will help immeasurably to alleviate much of the dysphoria I have felt every day for the last twenty-odd years. Sadly, health insurance almost never covers medical treatment for transgender individuals, and "elective" surgeries like this one are unbelievably expensive. That's why I am asking for your help.
Your donation will help me access medical treatment, but more than that, it will help me continue to do the work and fight for the causes to which I am devoting my life. Please donate as you are able; it means the world to me.
