I am setting up this GoFundMe for some very special friends of mine. For those of you that know the Nelson family, you know the struggles their daughter Elliana faces nearly every day. She is severely immuno-compromised due to a missing gene within her immune system, she has neutropenia (blood disorder where neutrophils are destroyed-neutrophils are what is found in our blood that help our bodies fight infection), an unknown autoimmune disease, an enlarged spleen that requires her to wear a spleen guard to prevent rupture, she had a life saving surgery in Pittsburgh a couple years ago to have a shunt placed in her abdomen to replace a her missing portal vein (the vein that carries all blood and nutrients from the spleen to the liver and throughout the body) where they took her left jugular vein and used it as a make-shift portal vein called a Meso-Rex shunt.  She also had a large ASD (atrial septal defect or “hole”) in her heart that required open heart surgery.  Her doctors have told the family that all of her medical issues are due to a bigger picture, a VERY RARE disease. Elliana has spent most of her life fighting for her life. In and out of hospitals constantly. It’s been all she’s known since before she was even born (at just 1 lb and spent 6 months facing MANY health battles in the NICU before getting to come home for the first time.) Elliana is a fighter. A warrior. Her family has been through so very much as well. She has two brothers and a sister at home. Currently, Elliana is in on day 8 at Nationwide Childrens Hospital in Columbus after being diagnosed with a horrible virus. The virus seems to have attacked her fragile body in every sense of the word. When Elliana gets sick, her body lacks what it needs to fight. Therefore leaving her little body even more fragile and having to fight much harder than any person should have to. Mom has had to give up her career as a teacher to be able to accommodate Elliana’s schedule as Elliana is not able to attend school during the cold and flu season and isn’t able to attend daycares or be around many people during those months. Obviously there aren’t many jobs that will let someone “take off” the entire cold and flu season each year. Not to mention the countless appts Elliana is required to have, her weekly IGG infusions, and the countless long hospital stays far away from home. Between gas for Matt to visit, Samantha being unable to work to stay with her daughter, costly food at hospital, medical bills & everything in between- this family needs our help. They’ve been battling this for almost 7 years and advocating for their daughter for some answers. They are some of the strongest people I’ve ever met, some of the nicest people and they’ve never asked for help!
