Shenandoah Valley Chess Club

The Shenandoah Valley Chess Club is a not-for-profit community organization that began in September 2013 with four chessboards and three simple goals:

1) To gather the entire community around the 64squares of the Chessboard.

2) To promote the academic benefits of Chess through formal Chess education.

3) To introduce "The Royal Game" to a new generation of chess players.

Since 2013 we have held over 40 Chess Meetings and one 1st successful tournament in June 2014!

Dozens of chess players from ages 5 to 75 have participated. Families, university students, and senior citizens frequent our events to compete and share the game of Chess.

Our goal is to establish a chess program in the Shenandoah Valley region for years to come.

We are affiliated with the United States Chess Federation and working in partnership with Handley Regional Library.

Our next step is to partner with the local academic community, youth organizations, and state scholastic associations to bring Chess to more young people.

Scientific research has proven that the study of Chess increases concentration, memorization, and test scores in young students. Chess also boosts confidence, problem-solving skills, and mental health for all ages.

Funds raised to support the Shenandoah Valley Chess Club will be used to acquire more Chess equipment and resources to hold larger regional Chess tournaments.

Funds will also help us to achieve our ultimate goal of non-profit 501(c)(3) status. SVCC is an open club that does not charge membership fees. Non-profit tax designation will give us flexibility to earn grants under science and education.

Please contact SVCC Director, David Hubbard, for business plan information. We would love to share with you how we plan to acheive these goals.

We are just getting started!

Our growth thus far is thanks to word-of-mouth, community involvement and SVCC chess players generous donation of time, resources, and ideas.

With your support we can take it to the next level!

With gratitude,
