Tom Royer Extended Medical Fund

UPDATE ON TOM ROYER: Tom (a double lung transplant recipient) is back in the hospital and needs your help! He is undergoing exploratory surgery this morning.

PLEASE do what you can to help Tom and Lily get through this setback.

Please note: The funds listed in this campaign (started 3 years ago)  does not reflect the current amount available to Tom and Lily.  Those funds went to hospital and medical expenses from Toms previous (and numerous ) hospital visits.

THEY ARE IN DIRE SHAPE.  Please help if you can. ❤️

FROM LILY:
Hi all. Well, Tom has been diagnosed with a nasty bowel obstruction and has been admitted to the hospital for another day or two. I don't have much more information... he has a tube up his nose going down into his tummy and he's sleepy now. He was in so much pain when I called 911 this morning I didn't know what to think or feel! I'm so glad that it wasn't involving his poor, already-damaged-again lungs (damaged from last year's devastating 2 month long coma in the same hospital). I'm freaking out about all the horrible flu strains, germs, and general illnesses that go along with being anywhere NEAR a hospital, let alone IN one with a compromised immune system. *sigh*
Help spread the word!

Update: November 29, 2016

Tom suffered a setback after doctors brought him out of sedation last week.

Just before Thanksgiving, it looked like Tom was making progress he was awake briefly and was able to respond by nodding his head, moving his hands and mouthing the words "I love you" to Lily.

Unfortunately, shortly after, he developed a fever and doctors put him back on heavy drugs and paralytics to stablize him.

They tried to wean him off of them again this week, but now he has been diagnosed with viral pneumonia.

Tom's doctors had been wanting to do tracheostomy surgery to clear his compromised lungs, but Tom had not taken the turn needed to go under general anaesthesia; which can be very dangerous, but he needs a turnaround before they can go any further with his progress to make him well again. (See link at the bottom).

To prepare him for the surgery, they are adjusting his nutrtuion levels as they want him as healthy and strong as possible.

We are not sure if and when this will take place but will be posting updates here.

Thank you again for all your well wishes and support.  Tom needs your prayers now more than ever.

Update: Nov 10, 2016

It's been about a year and a half since Portland drummer Tom Royer recieved a successful double lung transplant, (after three other failed attempts to recieve them).  His recovery has been a long one; the first six months of it of it was spent in Seattle where he had to remain in a germ free enviroment until he was well enough to return to his home in Portland.
Tom eventually regained his strength, went off oxygen for the first time in two years and he and his wife Lily (who was plagued with health problems of her own) slowly began rebuilding their life. He eventually returned to his dream of drumming again and was able to pick up a few gigs here and there.

However, recently Tom suffered a setback after contracting a rare nasty strain of rhinovirus that compromised his new and sensitive lungs.  He was admitted to the hospital October 30th.  A week ago he was moved to the Intensive Critical Care Unit where he still remains heavily sedated and with a feeding and intubating tube.  Tom is under powerful paralytic drugs to keep him stable and comfortable and on oxygen as he is unable to breathe on his own.
Tom CANNOT have any visitors at this time as he needs to remain in a sterile enviroment until he wakes up.  Once he wakes up he may be allowed visitors (who are not sick and are cleared by Lily).

The staff at the hopsital are optimistic that he will improve, however it is going to take some time.
Tom continues to need your support.  Please continue to share the campaign and donate if you can.
Note: This campaign was started over TWO years ago. The amount of funds raised shown on the campaign DOES NOT reflect the money Tom and Lily have now after incurring thousands of dollars of medical bills relating to his transplant and prior to this new setback. (We are in the process of adjusting tihs).

If you cannot donate, there are other ways you can help by sharing this campaign to others to create awareness to the many friends and fans of Tom.  Lily cannot drive, and could use an occasional ride to the store for groceries.  They could also use a housekeeper who can assist Lily with household chores.

Lastly, Lily wishes to thank the many dear friends and fans who have made a donation and continued to support them through this excruiatingly painful ordeal.

Please keep that love coming.  <3
With love and thanks,
Tracy and Louis Pain

Tom is heavily sedated and cannot have any visitors right now.  His doctors hopes to slowly wake him up later this week.

Tom doing what he loves to do the most, playing his drums. Let's get him back to playing drums again!

September, 2014:
"Now that Tom is officially on the Transplant List and in the top third, we need to be kept abreast of anyone you may know, or anyone that any of your friends who happen to know (in the Seattle area, within 30 minutes of the U-Dub Med. Ctr.), who own a furnished rental property that would be willing to rent to us on a short-term basis (and for a reasonably affordable price) for the 3 months that will be needed, post-surgery, please let us know ASAP! It is a hard thing to estimate when (hopefully in time!), but we have been looking at places up there and it is, so far, almost impossible to find anything in a reasonable price range. We found out this morning that our insurance will be paying only part of it. It has been very frustrating, especially when we have no idea when "the call" will come, but if I have a list of "possibles" I can use it to go on while Tom is In ICU for the 4 weeks he will be in there and hopefully one will pan out....
We will not know when the time will be that we are out of town for the transplant operation until a lung comes in with Tom's blood type and all the particulars necessary for a match for Tom... it could be an hour or a day, or months, perhaps a half a year away. I hope it is soon! He is getting worse every week! It is very "touchy" around here lately. We need to get his disability started and on track but we keep running into brick walls!
We will need to go on food stamps and can't get a straight answer from the people who are supposed to be doing that. We are worried about everything right now. I don't know what to say, except that we are taking each day as a chance to get all of our business in order in hopes that the call will come in to go to Seattle for his operation."
Tom and Lily need help NOW!  Please made a donation.  Also bookmark this page as we will be adding updates on Tom's condition as we much as possible.
