Owen Needs Chemo - Please Help

Please Help Us Save Our Owen!

Hello,

My name is Joanne.  My husband's name is Brian.  We are the proud "pet parents" of an 8 year old yellow labrador named Owen.

On Monday August 25th, Owen's lymph nodes suddenly swelled.  We took him to his regular vet.  She suspected lymphoma and performed 4 fine needle aspirations along with blood work and a series of x-rays.

We were hopeful when we were told the x-rays looked good and the aspirations were "inconclusive".   She started him on a broad spectrum antibiotic and ran additional blood work to search for a tick borne illness.

The blood work came back negative and we were referred to an internist for a second opinion.  The internist did another round of aspirations (again inconclusive) and an ultrasound (that showed swollen intestinal lymph nodes).  To better diagnose Owen's condition, the doctor ordered a lymph node biopsy the following day.

It's been an emotional roller coaster these past few weeks with "He has Lymphoma.  He doesn't have Lymphoma.  He has Lymphoma.  He doesn't.  He does."  We were very hopeful and prayerful that we would receive better news.

Unfortunately the specialist called this evening to say that the diagnosis is conclusive for Lymphoma.

We are absolutely heartbroken.

Owen is, as we like to call him, "our son".  He's been with us since he was just 3 months old.  We've celebreted every one of his birthdays.  Taken him to dog parks, the mountains, the beach, hikes...  He has weekly day care visits to play with other dogs.  He's spent hours snuggled with us on the sofa and sleeps with us at night because he hates to be apart from us.  He's our "child" and best friend.  He brings so much joy and laughter to our lives.

If you were to see him, you would never suspect he was sick.  He'll jump up to greet you and nearly knock you over with is wagging tail.  His appetite is as strong as it ever was, and he constantly brings toys over to play fetch.

I am filled with such shock and sorrow as I write this.

We really aren't people who like to ask for help, but we find ourselves now in a situation where we need to admit that we are struggling emotionally and financially with this situation.

To date, Owen's veteranary bills have totalled just under $3000.
6 months of chemo therapy will add another $4000 to the total.

There are no words to express our gratitude for any support that will help to give as much time with our Owen as possible.

Prayers, sharing this link and Owen's story, and of course donations will all be very much appreciated.

In sorrow, love, hope and gratitude,
Joanne, Brian & Owen
