DW Bill of Rights: 1yr Anniv!

Tax deductible
Dignity in the Home starts here ~ La Dignidad en el Hogar comienza aquí.

September 26, 2014 marks 1 year after the passage of California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights (AB 241), la lucha sigue (the fight continues!). Please help us celebrate this milestone by signing on as one of our 241 donors for Dignity in the Home.

In order to shift popular culture and practice to value domestic work and formalize dignified standards across the industry, it will take a massive number of supporters - and it starts with you.  Members of the California Domestic Workers Coalition have been in the streets, parks, buslines, and homes across the state, organizing domestic workers and the people who employ them towards a shared vision of making "Dignity in the Home" a reality.  Will you help?

Since the bill has been signed into law, members of the California Domestic Workers Coalition have...

1. Co-drafted and piloted Domestic Workers Know Your Rights curriculum with the Women's Employment Rights Clinic and conducted Trainings for Trainers for 60 domestic workers and 16 staff in English, Spanish, and Tagalog.

2.  Co-developed and launched a Domestic Worker hotline and SMS texting DW App in partnership with StudioRev! All workers can enroll in the DW App to stay updated on their rights and activities for Dignity in the Home by sending a text to 347-WORK-500 or calling in to hear episodes on their rights.

3. Developed Know Your Rights factsheets in English and Spanish and disseminated these materials to thousands of workers across the state, through a statewide "NannyVan" caravan and through good old-fashioned people-to-people outreach in the streets, parks, buslines, and churches.

4. Innovated the practices of domestic worker centers across California in conducting systematic outreach and engagement of workers, towards an overall goal of organizing 10% of all of California's domestic workers by 2017!

5. Deepened relationships with seniors, people with disabilities, and others who employ domestic workers through campaigns to advocate for affordability of care alongside the establishment of industry wide standards for dignified domestic work.  We are also working in partnership with Hand in Hand, a network of employers of domestic workers, in support of their "My Home is Someone's Workplace" initiative.

We need your support to continue this slow, steady, and critical work to realize Dignity in the Home. Please make your commitment today.

Even more accomplishments and undertakings will be unveiled at the in-person anniversary celebration Friday, 9/26, 7-9pm in the SF Women's Building (3543 18th Street). RSVP here to reserve your seat!
