Better Late than Never!

Self-employment has always worked best for me, but I've had some major setbacks and need help to get back on my feet!

I am looking for money towards my rent & utilities, and to support my service dog who currently lives with my son as I cannot afford to care for him. With those basics covered, I hope to be able to work to get myself back on my feet. Details of my story below:





As a disabled woman and single mother who was not content to live on SSDI payments for my entire life, I returned to college when my son started his college career. At that time, I had my Social Security Disability payments and a rent subsidy. While I was not living high, I did have adequate funds for myself and my son.

Fast forward ten years. I have my master’s degree – and was offered a half time professional position at UMass Amherst. Since I was employed 20 to 25 hours per week (at a job I enjoyed very much) with pay that allowed me to manage, I was taken off disability (which was part of the intent of working to improve my heath and my skills, after all: SELF-SUFFICIENCY!) and also lost my rent subsidy. Still – I was moving forward – until the funding ran out for my job. I've spent a year looking for another job without luck. 

I had to move to a tiny apartment in a depressed area. Though I’m glad to have a roof over my head, I’m afraid of not being able to keep up with this rent either. My plan is to work for myself online doing content design. I’ve done so before successfully and the very part time job (9 hours a week) I have at UMass calls on those skills.
