This page is to share the story of Shelly (Marlowe) Cawley and help raise financial support for her and her family during this time of her recovery. Shelly is a happily married 23 year old who was expecting her first child in mid-September. Being a mom was something Shelly has always looked forward to being so she was so excited for this time of her life!
On Friday, September 5 Shelly was visiting her doctor for a prenatal check up. As she was leaving the hospital her water broke and the excitement of labor began. Shelly had experienced some complications during pregnancy, but they had been successfully managed. As labor progressed doctors assessed the risk and needed to place Shelly under anesthesia in order to deliver her baby girl.
Rylan Grace was born around midnight and was a beautiful and perfect 7 lb 11 oz bundle of joy! She is the most peaceful baby many of us have ever seen. She is healthy beyond description!
However, Shelly's body did not handle the surgery very well. Doctors have needed to keep her in a medically induced coma (on total life support) while they are working on all her needs. She was transported to a larger hospital in Charlotte that has more expertise and equipment to help her. The baby was also transferred to the nursery there so she can be in the same hospital as her mom.
This is not the first time Shelly has experienced this kind of fight for her life. Several years ago she was in a vehicle that was hit by a Charlotte city bus. Shelly was on life support at that time and doctors speculated on her future. If she lived, they predicted she might be paralyzed. We know our God is a healer as He showed before through Shelly! Not only did she survive, but she could walk, talk, and live life like any other young woman. We know beyond any shadow of a doubt that Shelly is a FIGHTER! Shelly has been in nursing school because she saw how much of a difference hospital staff made in her own life. We know she has been given the gift of compassion, tenderness, and love for those who are hurting both emotionally and physically.
