Help my students learn English!

Donation protected
In the past year, thousands of Honduran children have crossed the border into the United States. Twenty-five of these children have enrolled at the K-12 school where I teach in New Orleans. These children, many of whom are teenagers, have had limited opportunities to attend school in their home country. When I ask my students why they chose to make the dangerous trip here, leaving their culture, their families, and their language behind, the usually reply with only one word: "violence". Many of my students had a choice- leave or die in gang violence. It sounds dramatic- it is dramatic- but it's real.

These children are here. They are in our schools. They speak no English, but they are so eager. They want to work hard. They want to fit in. They want to contribute. They are so grateful. They just need resources and support.

So... let's get my students iPads! Their learning will increase exponentially. They already love using technology- with an iPad, each student will be able to access the language apps Duolingo and Rosetta Stone, the education website Khan Academy (there's a Spanish version!) to clarify misconceptions in the classroom, and language translation apps to get them through situations when nobody understands what they need. They deserve it.
