Beverly's Fight

Please help our family pay for Beverly's medical expenses, as well as support us in our efforts to make her coming home as safe as possible!!! Beverly is a 20 year old college student who was studying to be a biologist. She was also not only going to school fulltime, but working full time as well. She was a customer service rep at APAC, and did an amazing job. She is the middle child of 5. Beverly is a phenomenal person, she would take the shirt off her back for anyone, everyone who knows her would say the same. She was working towards her degree so that she could eventually move to Boston, MA to become a Marine Biologist, considering taking courses at Boston University. Beverly was also very involved with her family and friends, setting all others things in her life to help another. Her bright, smiling face was enough to lighten any mood and room, no matter how dark. This accident has truly devastated our family, as well as all of those who have ever known her. She has a long list of injuries which include: 10 broken ribs, a broken leg, her pelvis is fractured in 2 places which requires surgery for plates and screws to be inserted to hold them in place, she ruptured her spleen, has a liver laceration, a ruptured ovary, 6 broken vertebrae, broken ankle, 3 broken toes, and a concussion. When paramedics arrived on the scene of the accident, Beverly was unresponsive. She was rushed to st. Elizabeth's hospital,  where they examined her injuries which proved to be too severe for the hospitals staff, she required advanced knowledge and skill to treat her injuries. She had internal bleeding at this point and they we're not sure where it was coming from. When she was flown from st. Elizabeth's hospital to upstate university hospital by mercy flight, where they discovered the true extent of her injuries and rushed her to the operating room. She came out of surgery, but was not out of the woods. She was still having a lot of bleeding throughout that first night. Her stomach could not be closed, as the surgeons had to leave her open with her abdomen packed, due to the large amount of blood She had lpost. The following morning she had spiked a low grade fever, but they decided to take her into surgery anyways. The bleeding had subsided, although she had required 4 units of blood over the next 24 hours. She was then taken back to surgery for the third time in 48 hours to place plates and screws in her pelvis to stabilize it. It will be a long hospital stay before she is released, and even then she will be in a wheelchair for 3-6 months. As many of you know, her insurance is not going to pay for all of this, and therefore she is going to require some help. The icu stay alone is going to be very very expensive. Not to mention the fact that she is still incubated and also that she has had 3 surgeries already. Our mother is currently admitted at st. Elizabeth's hospital,  and our dad is currently caring for our other siblings. I, her sister amanda, am here making all of her, medical decisions as her health care proxy. While she has had visitors, I encourage everyone to show support, and plead that you will help me, help her. I appreciate everyone's time. Please share our story...and help Beverly's fight.
