As you know, I am a student at the University of Florida and I have just entered my senior year. Go Gators :)
Here at the University, I am a fourth year member of the Pride of the Sunshine Marching Band and we were very pleased to hear this year that we, as a group, were invited as one of the bands to perform at the 2012 London Olympics. We have contracts to perform at Wembley Stadium and there was even mention of a performance at Buckingham Palace! Everyone is so excited to have been honored with this invitation; we're trying to get as many members to attend as possible. But as you can imagine, a trip to London during the prime time of the Olympics is rather costly.
The projected cost of our trip, per person, is about four thousand dollars. Breathtaking, I know. Our band program has set up a payment plan for the members and it has each student making a five hundred dollar payment towards the total of four thousand each month, the first payment starting December 7th, 2011 and ending June 15th of 2012; so in total that would be seven payments of five hundred dollars. Our band program is working to find sponsors and donors for the trip to offset costs for everyone, but we haven't had much luck yet. And, unfortunately, there aren't any fundraising opportunities set up for us, so raising the money is the individual member's responsibility. I have been looking for a job in the Gainesville area to begin saving for our trip, but I still haven't had any luck and it doesn't look like I'll be able to save enough money on my own.
If any of you could donate to my cause, I'd be thrilled and most appreciative. A band trip like this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I'd love to be a part of it. I'm not asking for a specific amount, I know that due to our economy, money is tight with everyone. Anything that you could afford to donate would make me the happiest person alive. I have managed to fulfill the first and second payments of $500 each, but assuming no other donations come in from outside sources, I am in need of $3000 more. I know this is a series of six more payments of $500, but I hope to fulfill them all and be privileged enough to have the opportunity to be on a plane to London this summer! :)
