We Could Be Heroes

The Downtown Outreach Corporation of Detroit, Michigan is dedicated to impacting the lives of people throughout Detroit including our youth. One project, Building the Future of Detroit is helping our children one life at a time. To that end, we have been training and educating children in our community on myriad topics designed to address their needs. We believe that every child has the potential to be a hero and want to ensure they not only build their self-esteem, but that they also have the skills and experiences necessary to succeed through unique programs and opportunities. So far we have had sessions including but not limited to:

* Bullying
* Cyber Safety
* Health, Nutrition and Exercise
* Suicide Prevention
* Self Defense
* Stress
* Sexual Wellness (with the YMCA)
* Etiquette
* Interviewing and Resume Writing

We have also visited science centers, museums, zoos, aquariums, worked with the Gleaners, and more. This year we are planning programs on diversity, conservation, recycling, cooking, home economics and a series of other areas selected with the goal of helping them walk circumspectly in our world, be open, independent, healthy and successful. We are also going camping and organizing a host of other local activities. We desperately need you to be a hero for us. Please help us help build the future of Detroit, one child at a time.
