Brad Hardcastle needs help. He got hit by a car, walking across the street in Hollywood on August 24th, 2014. The person who hit him, left him injured on a corner, with no phone or anyone to help him. He suffered a completely broken bone in his forearm. Because he has no insurance, he has had to go through the state healthcare system for his injury. Several of his doctor appointments have had up to 16 hour wait times. It took him two and a half weeks to receive surgery and a partial cast. Unfortunately, this is just the beginning of his dilemma.
I met Brad several years ago in a restaurant, where we both worked. He's a fun loving, quirky, free spirit with a whole lot of talent and potential. Brad, however, didn't grow up like most of us. He grew up in a little Indiana town, in a really poor environment, with a lot of struggle. In order to escape his difficult surroundings, he left town, before finishing High School, to find a better life. He moved to Indianapolis, and then out of state. Eventually he ended up in Los Angeles, and was doing well for awhile. A few years ago, he hit a patch of tough breaks, and these circumstances caused him to become extremely depressed, and eventually homeless for a few months. He has always worked full time, and often has multiple jobs. He was recently able to secure a room, but now his injuries have caused him to not be able to work until this coming December.
Brad only had enough money to pay this month's rent when this started, and he has to find a new place to live by October 1st. He has had to completely depend on donations to survive, until he can get state assistance. Before the accident, he had been sleeping on the floor of his "room", which is actually a partitioned living room, in a mid to low-grade apartment. Although we were able to get him a blow-up bed and pillows for the time being, he needs many things. He also really wants to get his GED, and then eventually continue his education in music and video production. He desperately wants to be able to find a great job and be a successful part of his community. Brad often says that once he has found success, he would love to use this fund to help others in need.
