This big hairy looking goofball is my companion animal and best friend, Bane. My fiance and I have raised bane from a very young age which resulted in a 3 year strong bond with a dog that has more character than some people. We are avid "dog parents", and Bane contstantly "escorts" my fiancee to work where he greets customers and plays outside all day. Bane LIVES for his car rides, walks, playing fetch, camping trips, and couch snoozing.

Recently Bane was struck by a careless driver in steinbach, MB. and before anyone could catch a glimpse of the vehicle, it sped away. Its hard to believe someone could ignore an animal on the road and run it over. We heard Banes cries as he came to find us, crying in pain and limping--front paw dangling limply in the air. It was clear that something was broken. We took him to a local vet for x-rays, and as we were in the waiting room our 75 pound shepherd turned into a terrified 75 pound lap dog, whimpering into our laps for comfort. 

The x-rays confirmed he had a severe break on his lower front leg. It was so bad he would require sugery for metal plates to be placed in his leg to stabilize the bone. the surgery and x-rays resulted in a $2000 bill. But unfortunately it didnt end there.

During his surgery Bane ended up aspirating (inhaling) his own vomit into his lungs. This can happen when a dog (or a person!) has food in their stomach and goes under anesthetic. The vets suctioned out as much vomit as they could and quickly finished up with the surgery. The leg was a success, but due to him aspirating his own vomit, he now had clogged sninuses and airways that quickly led to fluid build up in his delicate lungs and a raging lung infection. This is the equivelant of a human having neumonia.




Unfortunately the Steinbach vet can not treat this type of respiratory condition. Bane was sent to the 24 hour emergency vet and put on 24/7 oxygen, 4 antibiotics, and IV line, and multiple pain medications and well as anti nausea medication. He is monitored 24 hours a day and recieves treatments every 4 hours. Despite the treatment, Bane still has issues breathing. He is contastly exhausted due to his leg pain and struggling lungs. While his condition is treatable, he has a poor prognosis if i am not able to fund his vet expenses.

Every day his vet bills grow SUBSTANTIALLY. I am depleting my little savings and have even blown our wedding fund trying to ensure my dogs lungs dont give out. The vet bill right now is equivelent to 6 months of my job earnings.
