Originally, this site was created for Becky Holt's stroke recovery. On Friday September 9th, Rebecca passed away in her sleep at age 68. Any donations to help the family with Becky's memorial & other expenses after her passing would be greatly appreciated.
Below is her original story.
Rebecca Holt is a great woman. She is also my grandmother. With 4 kids & 6 grandchildren, she has always put her family first in her life. But now, that's all changed. In June of 2012, Becky had a Hemorrhagic Stroke & later was medically induced into a coma. Her stroke occurred just after she had retired from working at Cal Poly most of her life. She was 64 years old. These are pictures of her with her family on a trip to San Diego 2 weeks prior to her stroke. (She is the woman 3rd from the left).
After many hospital transfers for the proper care, we have finally gotten Becky moved closer to home in November, 2014. My Nana is also finally coming out of her coma after 2 years! Her insurance covers most expenses but there's one type of therapy not covered.
Before the stroke, Nana used to paint all the time. It was one of her favorite things to do. This therapy- Mneme Therapy- uses painting with pleasurable experiences to create whole brain communication & stimulates a natural process. These techniques have been successful through the offered program "Art Without Boundaries".
This program costs $35 for a 30 minute session or $75 for a 70 minute session. Our family cannot afford to pay for this. Our "goal" is to get Nana this therapy for at least once a week for as long as we can. Nana loved the "trial" session of this program. Here is a picture of how she used to paint. She painted these stones in 2001.

Please help us raise money for Nana's paint therapy. It will help her so much! This is her form of communication. Becky can't speak, but she nods & points to her answers on a sheet of paper. If we can give her this, she will be able to express herself more than she has been able to in the last 2, long years. Our family just wants the best for her. She always did the same for us.
