Scarce Heard Among The Guns

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Peter Anderson. I’m a published author and WWI expert based in Folkestone and I’ve set up this fund with the aim of financing three projects:

1) To keep a collection of WWI relics in Folkestone. The collection consists of various relics from or to do with WW1. The collection includes a Vickers Machine Gun-Folkestone was the last home of the Machine Gun Corps (Calvalry) before it was disbanded, Medals, including one to a soldier who started in the Infantry and retire from the Gurkhas. some service records including one of a Captain in the Chinese Labour Corps. At the moment the collection is in storage. The aim is to put the collection and my archive on public display. Hopefully on the harbour mole were between four and five million soldiers saile to France. All the items and the archive can be used for educational purposes. The Machine gun is a great favourite with small children both girls and boys up to the age of eighty. The machine gun has been displayed by Step Short and this fund will allow it to be displayed, and handled by the public again. All my relics are available to schools and other educational establishments. The fund will allow this to remain free.

2) To fund further research into Folkestone’s unique WWI history.

In the past, investigations have led to the discovery and recognition of lost war graves and been used to provide free WWI tours of the area. Current projects include:

Investigating and reporting upon  Units, Regiments, Battalions and individuals who were in Folkestone during WWI, This research is available to the public and the fund will keep this as a free service to those on a low income.

Researching the Lolaire disaster and

Researching the history, development and significant impact of Henry Wade’s Surgical Car.

3) And finally, due to numerous financial constraints arising from being a full-time carer, to help fund a place for me at Wolverhampton University to complete an MA in First World War Studies. Once completed I will use this education to help establish a museum in Folkestone, and to help others interested in finding out what their forefathers (and mothers) did in the War to end War.

Any donations to this fund will be greatly appreciated and will make a significant difference to the way in which Folkestone’s WWI history can be recorded and preserved for the future. The findings of all research will become publically available and progress will be regularly reported via my blog.

Thank you.
