Lloyd Andrew Poff, born February 16, 1962. Greenwood, Kentucky.

Andrew was in the National Guard Army Reserve, but was seriously injured during a basic training exercise, when a female recruit died from heat stroke and fell, with full-pack, (80lb). This impact broke Andrews L. knee which led to his "Honorable Discharge". This event left Andrew with no future benefits from the VA since ONLY 8 months prior to Anderw's Enlistment, Congress passed a bill limiting ANY help to ONLY those that SERVED 2 years ACTIVE duty.

This means that the VA can't help with ANY final expenses.
Andrew was an artist, a son, a brother and a "GOOD MAN". He loved to work outdoors and had a "green thumb". He spent the last 5 years helping a friend with a terminal cancer diagnosis, logging over 250,000 miles while driving his friend to and from treatments in Del Rio, returning to SE Kentucky where they lived.

Andrew came to Black Mountain to stay with his sister (Peace) and brother-in-law (Alan) February 1, 2014 to find work after the passing of his friend in Kentucky.

Admitted to Mission Hospital Monday August 18th and was operated on that day for a ruptured ulcer on his small intestine, the 1/2 inch hole was patched using the "Graham Patch" method. He had to be given 2 pts. of blood Tuesday and 2 more on Wednesday, due to internal bleeding. By Thursday they removed the stomach pump and said there was no more bleeding. He was released Saturday afternoon, and returned home to the mountain, which is where he really wanted to be!

Everything was fine, he was resting well until about 2 AM when he cried out for help to get to the bathroom. Andrew's sister and brother-in-law found him collapsed on the floor. Andrew was cold and clammy and incohearent. His sister dialed 911 while his brother-in-law got him comfortable on the floor. The paramedics arrived only moments before Andrew stopped breathing. The emergency responders strived...but to no avail. Andrew was gone.

Andrew's sister, Peace, wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and donations in this time of need. All donations will go toward medical bills and funeral expenses.
