HI Fitness Fans! I have important updates...
HI Fitness Fans!
I have important updates on my hip surgery recovery as well as some other news....
Many of you know that I am back from Chennai, India recovering from major hip surgery. It's been an adjustment to say the least, and I continue to make progress weekly.
On April 4th I made my 6 month anniversary mark for my hip surgery. I have to be honest with you, that as fit and strong as I am it's been extremely challenging getting my hip and body back into shape. But I have learned an incredible amount that I can now pass along to all of you, which I will do shortly in some blog posts and hopefully some videos. Re hab in an ongoing process...and I embrace daily.
I continue working on my mobility and stability. The most challenging is working through the scar tissue from the incisions that were down to the bone, which brings about the stiffness and constictions of the hip muscles. But...I am blessed that I am no longer in pain from my hip.
You can read why I chose to go to India by clicking on this link
I really appreciate all of the help from my friends and family so far, and love all of you for supporting me on this journey. But it's not over yet....
At this critical point I still have not reached my fundraising goal of $6,000, which is to help pay for the medical costs of the trip, as well as the aftercare that I now need.
NEWS UPDATE: While recovering from the surgery on my right hip my left shoulder took up the slack for the right one... Needless to say an old injury on my left shoulder came back to haunt me, and I am now pending surgery within the next few weeks.
Although I am mid stream in my re hab for my hip, and no where near ready for another major joint surgery, such is life and the show must go on.

I want to thank Leslie Maltz...
Friends,
I wanted to update you on my successful hip resurfacing surgery that was performed on October 4th in Chennai, India. It has now been almost 7 months. Time flies, doesn't it?
I am back in Oakland, CA, and very focused on my rehab and recovery.
The surgeon who performed my hip resurfacing, Dr. Vijay Bose, is a world class hip specialist at the very prestigious Apollo Hospital, Chennai, India. He is very qualified and has 10 years experience doing hip resurfacing. I was well taken care of.
However, I am still behind in what was needed to save my hip, and the bills are mounting.
To further complicate the rehab of my hip I am facing another major surgery in April in order to repair a torn rotator cuff, which has gotten worse over the past several years, despite Physical Therapy.
Meanwhile, just when I will be only 7 months post hip surgery, and in the throngs of my recovery, I will be faced with another six to twelve months of rehab, to full recovery for my shoulder.
So I am writing to ask you to give $25-$100 (or any $ amount you feel comfortable donating) to help save my life as an athlete, fitness trainer, agent, and a friend.
For those of you who are just tuning in Last year, I was diagnosed with genetic hip displasia -- a painful condition that causes friction between my hip bone and the femur socket it rests on.
The result of having gone years as an athlete without knowing of this condition had left me with absolutely no cartilage in my right hip. On top of that I had multiple bony spurs which made it very painful in certain positions, and a cyst that continued to grow, which could have diminished the possibility of successful outcome if surgery had not been performed soon.
The only experienced surgeons who are trained to remedy this condition -- which involves inserting a steel cup into the femur socket with exact precision, as well as a steel ball onto the head of the femur, while saving as much bone and muscle as possible – are outside of my health insurance provider. I found Dr. Vijay Bose, who is one of the five top-rated surgeons in the world for performing this kind of operation, who will perform this surgery for 1/4 of what it would cost in the U.S
Often, you are asked to help contribute money for friends who are running marathons or doing bicycle rides for AIDS, cancer, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes. This time, I am asking you to make a one-time contribution of $any amount, whatever you can manage, to help me literally get back on my feet. Without the ability to move free of pain, I have no way of earning my livelihood and doing what I love to do every day of my life: run, walk, climb hills, and train people to be fit. Please, don’t be shy about donating any amount.
Total cost for surgery, travel and accommodations, recovery, physical therapy and rehabilitation is roughly $17,000.
For everyone who contributes, I will send you a biweekly update with health and wellness tips.
Major contributors will get the e-book “Run Walk (Skip or Hop) Your Way To Your First 5K”; a 30 day Fat Burning meal plan; discounts to my fitness ‘boot camp’ (or to a boot camp in your city), or a combination of the above.
NOTE: There is an 8% Pay Pal fee for all online donations. You may also send a check to:

And yes, we'll have a party to celebrate and thank everyone once the hip and her owner are reunited.
Thank you in advance for your support.
