PROJECT REBOUND - David Younan

Donation protected
In the summer of 2014, on August 14, a young man named David suffered a brain aneurysm. Word quickly spread throughout his hometown of Leamington and all of Windsor-Essex County that one of its beloved youth was fighting for his life. Upon arriving to Windsor Regional Hospital, David was already declared deceased. After flat lining twice more, miraculously David pulled through. However, David's fight to live was only just beginning.

After a successful surgery David remained in a coma. Four weeks later David opened his eyes and was unable to talk, walk or eat and had no use of the left side of his body. The aneurysm had changed David's reality.

Two months post-injury David began physical rehabilitation at Parkwood Rehabilitation Institute in London, Ontario and subsequently at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare. Participating in 6 hours of various types of therapy daily and after 8 months of hard work, David has been discharged from in-patient rehabilitation at a crucial time in his therapy. This will compromise David's continued success as he requires additional aggressive therapy to regain his ability to walk, use his left arm and overcome residual visual limitations. David's neurosurgeon has identified DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan as the facility that can give David his best possible chance to recover his physical and visual abilities. DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan is a cutting edge facility with equipment and therapy opportunities that are not available in Canada. For more information, please refer to the link with video at the bottom of this letter.

David's incredible perseverance has inspired his friends, family and community to put together a benefit to not only celebrate his progress, but to enable him to continue along with much needed physical therapy. The benefit will take place Friday, August 21 of 2015 at the Leamington Portuguese Club. Not only will a pasta dinner be served but we are delighted to announce Billy and Jody Raffoul will be the entertainers of the evening. Along with games and fabulous door prizes, we are confident that this event will bring in hundreds of family and friends from all over Windsor-Essex County. David couldn't think of a better way to celebrate his progress than with the community that stood by his side this past year.
