Brooklyn Jumbies Workshop

The stiltwalkers in the Cody ChesnuTT video shown in the YouTube clip at the bottom of this page are the Brooklyn Jumbies, and they are willing to come to Philadelphia to do a children's workshop this fall. The workshop is being co-organized by stiltwalker and Philadelphia School of Circus Arts administrator Tanaya Thomas.

From everything I have seen both at Circus Arts and with the Jumbies, growing COMMUNITY and growing SKILLS are their top priorities. This workshop will enrich culture, community, educational initiatives and confidence-building (and gorgeous) skills to philadelphia children.

We have a really passionate goal of getting half the kids into this workshop on "scholarship" -- in other words, we need to crowdfund the cost of the workshop, and use this one-day  opportunity as a jumping off point to get Germantown kids involved in the Circus Arts school.

As for eligibility for the "scholarship", Germantown educators and community initiators will be identifying kids who are willing to write a paragraph about themselves and why they want to participate in an Afro-Carribean stilt workshop. Non-scholarship kids who sign up will still have some of the costs of this workshop offset by this fundraising project.

This truly has germantown written ALL OVER IT and I am hoping we can harness that community spirit to pull together this relatively modest monetary goal. But we need more than "likes" on Facebook to do it!

Workshop is currently scheduled for September 27, 2014, from 2-4 pm.
