Taking Peace Mala campaign to Paris

Donation protected

Greetings old and new friends,

Thank you to all who have shown support for the ‘Peace Mala 1000 mission campaign’ so far. I am still looking to drum up more support and reach that £10k target (hopefully before the end of the year!) Meeting with some challenges recently that left me incapacitated to carry out workshops has given me blessed time to realign with my mission statement and it has reaffirmed my passion to bring more of the peace mala work to members of communities that I have yet to meet and to communities in which tensions and rifts still persist.

Who am I and what do I do?

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Malaika and I am an interfaith Minister and an ambassador for the Peace Mala organisation. My passion is to promote and celebrate the value of peace and the importance of ‘YOU’/ people. I have enjoyed delivering a variety of workshops to many different communities in the Manchester area, for the last six years. In my experience, people have different struggles, misconceptions and beliefs and have benefitted from the workshops I do in the following ways:

·       A deeper understanding of diversity within the community and the diverse range of community issues, as reflected by its members.

·       Learned ways of thinking that encourage and celebrate diversity and peaceful relationship between differing community groups.

·       Appreciating the value to the community and the individual in resolving existing or outstanding conflict issues for the sake of peaceful relationship and mutual understanding.

·       An awareness of human needs and rights in the global community and an appreciation of our everyday roles as global citizens.

I, myself, have also benefitted from delivering workshops both personally and spiritually, having had the opportunity to touch many peoples’ lives and having been touched, myself, by many more. Connection with others, particularly those who haven’t had a medium to express themselves, has always been important to me and I hope that, with your assistance, I can connect with many more.

What is Peace Mala?

The peace mala, itself, is a bracelet consisting of 14 colourful beads that represents and celebrates 13 different major faiths of the world and also those belonging to no faith (http://www.peacemala.org.uk/ See website here for more information).

The concept was the brainchild of Pam Evans which was born out of 9/11 and its core message is to ‘treat others as you would like them to treat you’ (also known as the ‘golden rule’). Using this concept, the goal of my peace mala workshops is to foster friendship, respect and peaceful relationships between individuals belonging to different faiths and backgrounds in our local communities and beyond. In the workshops, we explore prejudices that alienate or separate us from connection with our neighbours and we remind ourselves that we can celebrate what makes us different from one another.

How can you help (Peace mala 1000 mission)?
I would like to expand the work I have done so far, mainly in Manchester communities, to other locations within the UK and Ireland as well as abroad, particularly in Africa and the Caribbean. My goal is to provide a peace mala workshops to a 1000 people as a volunteer so that these workshops are available to everyone who wants to be a part of them. Any funding received would go towards materials & utensils, resources and travelling expenses. Where I am travelling abroad or long distances, I shall be responsible for accommodation.

Following the recent attacks in Paris, we intende to take Peace Mala to Paris either before xmas or after. Our intension is to deleiver the workshops before march 2016.

As a thank you for your support, I would like to offer all those who donate to the campaign the following:

·       A letter from myself and updates on work I’m doing

·       Bespoke prayers and affirmations

·       A one-to-one free session with myself to do work on something of your choosing (see my website for more information for more of what I do).

·       An invite for you or someone in your life to attend peace mala workshop to experience the power of the work for yourself and apply it to your relationships with friends, family, work colleagues and those in your community.

Here is a typical outline of my peace mala workshops (lasting 3 hours):

10.00am: welcome & introduction
10.10am: warm up exercise
10.30am: debate about peace
10.50am: short film about Peace Mala and its history
11.00am: the group will make the Peace Mala
12.00am: gratitude ceremony – everyone in the group has the opportunity to receive some kind words about them from different members of the group
12.45pm: we all read the peace pledge and complete feedback forms.

All participants will leave the workshop with a Peace Mala booklet and the knowledge and experience of a Peace Workshop.

As I mentioned before, I have worked with many different communities and groups but I would like to focus more of my work on: schools & youth groups, faith groups, office workers, neighbourhood schemes & housing groups, hospital groups, elderly communities, prisoners and ex offenders as well as any other groups who would like to experience the work.

Final message

I hope I have made my intentions clear to you and you leave with a good understanding of the importance of these peace mala workshops to community health and happiness. Any donation, small or large, is significant and don’t be a stranger in connecting with me through any of my social media pages, emails or my website. I like to hear about you too :)!

Until we connect again, peace be with you, love & light, Reverend Fujo Malaika. x
