Move to D.C. & Gender Transition

Donation protected
hello friends. :)
i'm writing to you about my latest adventure. in late may 2014, i traveled to washington d.c. for the capturing fire spoken word slam & summit and experienced one of the most memorable times of my life. two weeks after returning home, while writing about my journey, i expressed my newfound love, liberation, and longing for the city and decided it was the place to transplant my life. besides returning to work and my studies, this summer has been one of genuine exploration while coming out as genderqueer and transfeminine.

i intend to move to d.c. in february 2015 and begin the next stage of my life. it has always been my dream to finally leave louisiana and uproot myself. because i live in baton rouge, i'm not comfortable with executing my transition here. for those who are not familiar with the term, genderqueer means identifying outside of the gender binary of male and female, an umbrella term for nonbinary gender identities including those who don't want to name their gender or feeling they are a variety of them. i also consider myself transfeminine, identifying as feminine of center, a term used by people who were assigned male at birth. this transition involves legally changing my name to "thomas-venus hinyard", applying use of my preferred pronouns (they/them/their[s]), expanding my wardrobe, and undergoing electrolysis treatments to remove hair surrounding my face, hair, and neck areas, of which is the most important in terms of money.

this campaign is to serve as a medium for those who want to help with my transition into d.c. and my gender  transition to feel more comfortable with my identity. i work three days a week, so besides saving money for my own survival until i find a job in my new home, i'm going to have to likely pay for electrolysis weekly for each treatment. i also will have to pay for a moving truck for my belongings and transportation into the city in february. if you are able to spare anything towards my transition, it is greatly appreciated. signal-boosting is also an acceptable and grateful form of helping. i thank you all for supporting the closure of this chapter and the opening of the next! :)

love,
thomas-venus hinyard
