North Star of Herschel Island Historic Plaque
Donation protected
Let's Honour this ship! North Star of Herschel Island is the last sailing ship involved in the Arctic fur trade. She was built in San Francisco in 1935 and shipped up to the Arctic for two Canadian Inuit fur traders who used her to transport their winter's catch of fur to market. She later went on to survey for the oil and gas industry and to search for mermaids. She is now moored in Victoria, B.C. Last year was her 75th anniversary and we would like to mark this historic occasion with a bronze plaque to be affixed permanently to the sea wall in Victoria. These are expensive and right now all of our money goes into repairing and maintaining the ship.
