My name is Dylan. I am a 20 year old trans guy from Chicago trying to save up for top surgery.
Every little bit helps. I will be working as much as possible to save up money, but given my status as a student I cannot work the hours necessary to raise enough to pay for this by myself. For everyone who donates, please know that I am so very grateful. This surgery will be life changing for me, finally allowing me to feel comfortable in my body and allow for my outter self and inner self to live in harmony.
Over the past few years, I have spent countless hours considering my options, reflecting on my identity, and determining what the best path was for me. I am finally on the path to becoming the person I want to be, to becoming the best version of myself. On February 18th, 2014, I started hormone therapy, and the results I've seen so far have made me extremely happy.
For about 4 years now, I have been regularly binding my chest with a binder from Underworks. During 2014, however, I had to take a trip to the emergency room due to chest pains and trouble breathing. I was diagnosed with chostochondritis, which is an inflamation of the chest wall. While it is a temporary condition, it has been extremely hard to treat because I need to bind for both my physical and emotional comfort. I now have to take long binding breaks, sometimes not binding for up to 2 weeks at a time, and it causes me a lot of dysphoria. I am unable to fit into the clothes I feel most comfortable in and I am consistently misgendered in public when I can't bind.
I'm looking for a more permanent solution. Top surgery has always been the goal for me, and now more than ever it has become less elective and more necessary. The surgery itself will cost between $7,500. I am hoping to get the procedure done with Dr. Daniel Medalie in Cleveland sometime around the end of may (approximately May 25th).
