Medical and Travel Expenses

Donation protected
On July 8th, my niece, Courtney Patterson was stricken with a severe case of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). GBS is a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system.  This disorder left her paralyzed and on a ventilator for a month.  Courtney was in Riverside Hospital for several weeks and has now been moved to a step down facility in Columbus.  With the help of therapists, doctors, and Courtney's strong will, she is slowly regaining feeling and small movement in her limbs.  She continues to need help with her breathing, but they are working hard to wean her from that as well.
It will be a long journey for Courtney to be back to herself again. The doctors are unsure as to timeline of a full recovery as it affects people differently.  Her prognosis is good and they are hopeful that she regains her strength.  It seems, though, that Courtney will need to stay in this facility for a while and there is a strong possibility of a nursing facility in the weeks to come.
Many people have been asking about how they can help Courtney, her parents (Scott and Pam), and her 2 year old son, Marshal.  We have set up this fund as a way to help with her medical expenses, accumulating bills, and travel expenses for Scott and Pam (as they have not left her side).
My brother, sister-in-law, and Courtney are very proud people who do not like to ask for help...so I am.  To my generous friends and family, please consider making a small donation to help lessen their burden.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.
