WHAT YOU'RE FUNDING:

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP:
$2500 in short-notice funding is needed by 4/13 to help cover our travel and program expenses for the trip, (which will be about $8800 total). Cannes Film Festival is from 5/13 to 5/24, and we need plane tickets as well as an event ticket to get in to our screening, (which is covered by the program we are going with). The way this GoFundMe works is that all money donated here is directly covering some of our travel and program expenses. Regardless of whether we meet the funding goal, ALL money raised will go towards covering our travel expenses, (roughly $2500 total for plane tickets). If we break $2,500 in funding, money will then go towards covering our program expenses, (another $6300 in total for Cannes Marché tickets, room/board for ~2 weeks, international cell phones, help from guides with the program who will show us the ropes at the festival, and the opportunity see our film screened).
SUMMARY:
James and I made a short documentary about a North Carolina-based freestyle rap movement for Campus MovieFest (CMF) in November 2014 with the help of an awesome team. Filmed with the blessings of the Cypher Univercity movement, the 5 minute mini-doc was compiled from footage shot in 5 cities in North Carolina during a span of 6 days. We were CMF finalists and winners at NC State, and now we've been offered the opportunity to screen "The Cypher Documentary" at Cannes Film Festival in France, one of the world's premier international film festivals.
This is a huge opportunity to expand the cypher movement across the globe, and spread our culture of creative reciprocity to people who care. Cannes is a huge international film festival, and with your help we can bring Cypher Univercity all the way to France, and maybe beyond. We are currently filming a full length documentary on Cypher Univercity and the growing cypher movement in North Carolina as well, and we plan on shooting footage for the documentary at Cannes alongside the screening of our mini-doc. This is also an opportunity to pitch the full documentary idea to professionals and look for some funding for the project.
We're finalizing our trip plans now, and by Monday we'll be all set for the adventure. Help us fund our trip to the Cannes Film Festival for the Cypher Documentary screening!
