Cubanabooks building bridges

78 year-old Cuban poet Georgina Herrera, is a daughter of a slave family and survivor of abject poverty and discrimination.

Georgina has been called "one of the humblest and most forsaken voices of Cuban poetry,"  but as one critic says, "she is illuminated by the fire of her poetry... a fire that lights one of the most intimate paths of contemporary Cuban poetics: paths of loneliness, of permanent sacrifice inherited by a race and by a will to begin anew everyday."

We are trying to get published a small book of her poetry, titled "Always Rebellious," that has enormous relevance in today's society, still plagued by racial controversy.

Her message is one we need to see here--a self-definition intimately related to validation of dignity and empowerment. It challenges the representation imposed upon the black woman, replacing it with positive images and a dynamic source of power.

If you donate to help this book be published, we will include your name on the dedication page, and we will pass on any message to Georgina that you wish to share!
