Our Fight for Milo

Donation protected
As most of you know, we have completely fallen in love with our 7-week old Shiba Inu puppy, Milo. Unfortunately, because we have become so attached, it makes our situation that much harder emotionally and financially.

We knew from the get-go that he had plenty of health issues, however we have not and will not be receiving a refund or coverage for medical expenses incurred from the breeder as she has disconnected her phone and moved to a different state. We no longer have contact with her and aren't expecting any type of compensation or buy-back in return. Regardless, we would not have returned him anyway considering the awful state he was in physically and mentally the day we brought him home. Ronnie and I have loved animals all of our lives and could never give up or walk away from an animal that needs our help.

It is very hard for us to ask for your assistance, but we regrettably cannot afford any further expenses to better his condition as we have already spent nearly $1,000 in medical bills. I called our veterinarian today to schedule an appointment for Milo, and knew that if there was nothing the vet could do for him at that time, that we would have to put him down. I began crying on the phone with the receptionist and came to the resolution that we can't bring ourselves to say goodbye to him before we have exhausted all of our efforts in trying to figure out what exactly is wrong with him so that we can give him the proper treatment he needs.

Milo has a level 4 heart murmur (on a scale of 1-6) as well as what appears to be a stereotypic neurological disorder according to two different veterinarians. This could be a result of several different things, but these types of disorders can be passed down genetically or as a result of being dropped or abused before he was in our care.

Because neurological disorders in dogs are considered a "gray area" for a lot of doctors without doing further tests, we have been given a referral from two separate veterinarians to take Milo to Central Texas Veterinary Specialist Hospital (CTVSH) in Austin to schedule a consultation to further explore our options for bettering his condition - including but not limited to, a CT scan, an MRI, Cardiac PET scans, and possible surgery. CTVSH charges a $145 consultation fee - and we have been told that the scans and surgeries to help Milo could cost upwards of $5,000.

It is extremely difficult for Ronnie and I to watch Milo day in and day out. Some hours are better than others - but most are heartbreaking for us to witness. We are at a point where we long to do everything we can for him - even if that means putting aside our pride and asking for your help and support.

We appreciate every donation, no matter how small. Every little bit helps cover the financial expense and worry about treating our little soldier.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Love,
Nicole & Ronnie
