Climbing For A Cause:Hope For Haiti

Hi Everyone!
My Name is James Supreme and I am a senior marketing major at Georgia State University. Over the next three months I will begin physically and mentally preparing myself to summit Washington's Mount Baker along with the president of Georgia State, Dr. Mark Becker, and nine others from the Georgia State community. We have committed ourselves to meeting on four Sundays from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. to condition our bodies and minds before attempting to summit Mount Baker from May 26-June 2, 2015.
The greatest physical and mental challenge of this trip will likely be the attempt to summit Mount Baker, which stands at an elevation of 10,778 feet above sea level. As a group, we will spend 3.5 days at high altitudes above 6,000 feet with roughly only 7 hours above 8,000 feet. This is probably one of the most challenging things I will ever do. So why am I doing this?
Growing up the first-born son of two successful Haitian immigrants, I learned at an early age my circumstances were not my destiny. I also learned in order to succeed in life, I must act in spite of fear. But all it takes is a little bit of perspective to see how small even your biggest obstacles are compared to what others face on a daily basis.
Unfortunately, for many Haitian's living in Haiti, fear is not the only thing they must overcome on a daily basis. In 2010, Haiti was hit by a catastrophic earthquake. Five years later, Haiti continues to feel the effects of the devastating earthquake. More than 85,000 Haitians are still homeless, and at least 200,000 Haitians reside in slums, where there's no electricity, running water or sanitation system in place.
Just as we will be trained by experts and guides to help us every step along the way to summit Mount Baker, Haitians have had the support of humanitarian relief efforts behind them to make Haiti a better place to live. However, while our journey to summit Mount Baker begins now and will end in June, Haitians will continue to find themselves in a social and economic situation that is worse than before the earthquake unless we do everything we can to help get them the resources they need to improve their circumstances, and realize their destinies.
Thankfully, there are organizations such as the Mission of Hope Haiti, a non-profit organization based in Haiti providing love, compassion, healing, and hope for the nation every day. MOHH has provided 6,100 children education, 474 families with long-term housing, and feeds over 91,000 children and students every day.
By summiting Mount Baker with the president of my university, I want to accomplish two things:
First, I want to raise awareness for the work that is still left to do in Haiti. As a Haitian-American, I am proud of the fact that Haitians haven’t succumbed to the tragedies of the earthquake, showing the world how resilient we are.
Second, I am aiming to raise $1,804 (the year Haiti gained its independence from France becoming the first independent black nation in the new world) for the Mission of Hope Haiti. Donations to this successful organization have already changed lives and I ask you to please be part of that success. I believe no donation of yours is too small and that, with your support, Haiti will be one step closer to overcoming its challanges.
Please note that all of the $1804 will go to the Mission of Hope Haiti. All donations will be a direct payment to the MOHH via their website and will go towards the education, orphan care, health care and nutrition of Haitians living in Haiti.
Whether it is a monetary donation or simply spreading awareness about the recovery efforts in Haiti, I greatly appreciate your support!
