The Chatham-Kent Children's Safety Village is a non-profit organization run entirely by donations by people like you.
At the Children's Safety Village we provide invaluable life saving programs to children in Grades 1, 4 & 6 - and with your support- will be able to provide these programs to Grades 1-8, seniors, and other at risk groups in the community!
What we need is to increase the number of students we reach who are at risk for preventable injuries, and we have that answer. Our Board President; Gary Patterson has developed a 32 week plan to reach all students in grades 1 through 8, in addition we are adding Senior, Adult & Teen Workshops, but we need seed money to get started of $50,000.
Our programs save lives. Teaching children essential skills such as bicycle and pedestrian safety, fire safety such as planning and escaping from a burning building, cyber safety, farm safety, rail safety, rivers, lakes and ponds safety, electrical safety and much much more, it has become evident through the testimonials of children who have put their newfound skills to use that these programs save lives. Since 2006, over 24,000 local children have been trained. Also since 2009 - 29 local children in Chatham-Kent have been awarded and recognized at our annual Sparky, Elmer & Andy Safety Awards Banquet for their acts of heroism in saving lives, and contributing to a safer community. (Some of the lives saved were parents of the children).
Injury remains the leading cause of deaths to Canadian children age 1-14.
• Every YEAR, an estimated 390 Canadian children age 14 and under die and another 25,500 are hospitalized.
• Every DAY 2 Canadian children die, while another 71 are hospitalized due to preventable injuries.
These deaths are caused from PREVENTABLE injuries.
That means each year more than 390 parents face the unthinkable – the loss of a child. With that loss comes the reality that the hopes, dreams and expectations they held for their son or daughter will never be realized. And yet life goes on – somehow.
What price would YOU put on your child, niece/nephew or grandchild's life?
Because in Ontario tax payer pay billions of dollars each year to bury, repair or treat (preventable) injuries for children. Chatham-Kent Children's Safety Village saves children's lives!
