"eXpendable" musical production

"eXpendable" musical production 2015:

Slavery is a reality for too many people in the world today. 2,000,000 CHILDREN are subjected to prostitution in the global commercial sex trade yearly and, to put it into perspective, an average sex trafficking victim may be forced to have sex 20 to 48 times PER DAY.

My name is Joanna Doak. I am the Founder and Artistic Director of Chameleon Jo Productions.  Once I learned of the horrific reality that 27 million people are bought, sold, owned, rented, used, and abused in the world today, I knew that I needed to do something!

Human trafficking flourishes because the majority of us DO NOT KNOW of its existence, but theatre is a medium where artists can bring this hidden world onto the stage and under the spotlight; it offers the audience the opportunity to experience someone else’s feelings and to feel another person’s experiences!

Soooo...this "eXpendable" project was conceived...

"eXpendable" is a brand new musical production which will premiere June 2015,
- in Fredericton, NB (June 18-20),
- in Toronto, ON (June 26-28).

"eXpendable"
is a fictional representation of the reality of sex trafficking in North America, using the SuperBowl as a back drop since large sporting events raise the demand.

The PanAmerican Games are coming to Toronto, ON in July of 2015 and the CBWOQ has invited Chameleon Jo Productions to bring the cast/musicians/crew to Toronto to perform the show as part of their initiative to support “Buying Sex is Not a Sport” and to raise awareness of sex trafficking in Canada at the PanAm Games.

So what’s "eXpendable" about?

Sarah is young and vibrant, with dreams of saving the world. She joins a special task force to search the streets to find and rescue missing girls forced to join “the circuit.”

What happens when she finds herself about to be put in “the circuit” to stay quiet? Will anyone be there to save her?

Intrigued?  We hope so!
Stay tuned… we’ll reveal more about the characters and the story throughout the campaign.

Where does my money go?
We have a total budget of $70,000.  Here's the breakdown:
$30,000 performers, musicians, creating script/score
$10,000 travel to Toronto
$5,000 theatre rental/rehearsal space
$5,000 sound/lights
$1,000 set
$1,000 costumes/props
$2,000 publicity
$4,000 food and accommodations (during rehearsal period and in Toronto)

We’re More Than Just Talk
We ordered t-shirts from a company called FreeSet. http://freesetglobal.com  When you purchase a t-shirt, more than half of the money goes towards Freeset, "which is a fair trade business offering employment to women trapped in Kolkata's sex trade", and the other half goes towards raising awareness about human trafficking in North America through the "eXpendable" production.

If you would like to purchase an "eXpendable" t-shirt, and for more information about our production, come check out our website.  www.chameleonjo.com  Because Chameleon Jo Productions is so eXcited for this musical to be produced and for YOU to be a part of this process, we would like to give back to YOU with every gift you give to us!

Please join us in making a concrete change in the world through music, theatre, creative expression, and through supporting the campaign… oh, and we'll see you at the show!
