These are the words Christina said to the cancer case manager assigned to assist her in her journey navigating through breast cancer. And these are the words she has lived by since being diagnosed in August 2014.
2014 was looking like a banner year for Christina. Newly married to her high school sweetheart, they were ready to begin their lives with their 5 young children - ages ranging from 6 to 11. But while on a family vacation, Christina found a lump in her breast. Having a family history of breast cancer, she had it looked at immediately. Much to her and Rich's dismay, the results were not what they had hoped for - Christina was diagnosed with Stage 2b Breast Cancer.
Christina is a small business owner who runs a gourmet cookie shop in the heart of Southington, CT. Being self-employed, her insurance has regular co-pays and a high deductible. She will be in treatment until at least August 2015 and is facing at least one more surgery, perhaps more. Christina has had to cut back on the hours her business is open which means less income to pay her medical bills.
