Since 1963, CHILD Inc has been helping the children and families of Delaware. From the beginning, as the Boys Home of Delaware, CHILD Inc has been committed to helping children reach their full potential. From humble beginnings as a small group home the agency has evolved into a comprehensive, child centered, family focused social service agency.
After more than 50 years, our primary focus remains on serving abused and neglected children. This commitment to children, led CHILD Inc, to become involved in helping families living with the horror of domestic violence. During the 1980s CHILD Inc, began providing programs to the victims of domestic violence and their children. Today CHILD Inc is the leading provider in Delaware of services to families impacted by domestic violence. Our mission is to be the leading advocate for Delaware’s children. We provide creative prevention and treatment programs that meet the changing needs of families. We serve dependent, neglected and abused children and their parents. We provide programs for those impacted by domestic violence, especially children. Last year, CHILD Inc served more than 12,000 people.
Today CHILD Inc, provides a comprehensive array of programs for children and families. These programs include counseling services for children and families, foster care homes, Delaware’s only shelter for abused and neglected children, parent education, two shelters for battered women and their children, advocacy for domestic violence victims, a domestic violence hotline and a family visitation center. In addition, for the last twenty years CHILD Inc, has been providing a resource center in the economically deprived community of Sparrow Run. In 2014 CHILD Inc, expanded its commitment to the families of Sparrow Run by opening a safe haven for children which we call the Kids Place. The Kids Place is a stable environment where children can meet after school, under the supervision and guidance of CHILD Inc staff to work on homework, participate in recreational and cultural enrichment activities and just be kids.
At CHILD Inc, we are committed to our mission, but we face daily struggles with funding. At a time when children and families are faced with unprecedented challenges including violence, substance abuse, homelessness and poverty so severe children go to bed hungry. We need to do more. For several years we have faced shrinking support from the government. The services and programs of CHILD Inc, need to be expanded, not reduced or eliminated. We need to reach more families and we need your help to do it.
