Katelyn JoAnn Tennant was born on October 29, 2002 to Nicole (Deffenbaugh) Tennant. She lived with her mom Nicole, and her little sister Brooklyn in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Katelyn was currently 14 years old and in 8th grade.

Katelyn loved playing games -- video games, board games...you name it. She loved eating and once won a hot wing eating contest against football players. Some of Katelyn's favorite TV shows were Greys Anatomy, House, and Big Brother.

Katelyn loved being a big sister too. Her sister, Brooklyn, is 12 years old. They were not only sisters but the best of friends.

Katelyn Tennant was South Dakota’s 2014 CMN Champion and was fighting the clock. When Katelyn was born, she was diagnosed with truncus arteriosus, and endured more than 30 surgeries and procedures. At the age of 8, she underwent her most serious surgery, which was having her pulmonary valve replaced.

The surgery went great, however, upon returning home from the hospital, Nicole, Katelyn’s mom, knew something wasn’t right. Although the heart and new valve were working perfectly, Katelyn was having a hard time breathing.

Katelyn was diagnosed with plastic bronchitis. According to her physician, Pediatric Cardiologist Dr. Bill Waltz, surviving plastic bronchitis was literally a miracle.

Doctors tried an experimental treatment with a drug used to break up clots in stroke patients and had Katelyn wear a special vibrating vest to break up any casts that might be forming in her bronchial tubes.

Recently, Katelyn’s plastic bronchitis returned. This is a very rare disorder that affects the lungs of less than 200 children in America. Many that are diagnosed do not survive, but luckily, Katelyn’s mother, Nicole found a surgeon at CHOP (The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia) that helped! She had multiple treatments daily but her body became very tired.

She had her fifth open heart surgery last October in Ann Harbor, Michigan which was successful! She got to feel better than she had ever known before. About a week ago, Katelyn started showing flu and cold like symptoms and had to go to the ER due to trouble breathing.

On March 16th 2017, Katelyn earned her angel wings.

She touched so many lives and anyone that met her loved her. She was the ultimate bad ass.

Nicole is a single mom and raised her amazing daughters all on her own. She works a 100%  commission job and obviously needs to take time off to take care of herself and her daughter.

Please donate so so we can take some of the financial stress off of her through this difficult time.
