Let me tell you a story ....
Once upon a time in villages and cottages all over the world, women took care of their hair, skins and bodies by making cosmetics from ingredients that grew around them. At the dawn of the modern age, women turned to cosmetic companies to make them beautiful. Companies hired chemists to make shampoos, skin creams, shaving creams and fragrances with ingredients -- like petroleum (oil) by-products, formaldehyde and detergents -- that enabled them to package, ship and stock their potions on store shelves so they could make their fortunes.
Not all of those ingredients were good for people. Women realized they'd almost forgotten the old ways of natural beauty from the earth. Just in time, they remembered they could make beauty products in their kitchens that are just as good, if not better than big companies.
Hi. My name is Sharon Shelton Corpening and If there's one thing my great Aunt Lucy taught me, it's that homemade was always best. You know exactly what ingredients, supplies, effort and intent go into every meal you cook, hat you crochet and lotion you make. She lived by that philosophy and it must have worked for her. She died at age 108.

This is the beginning (yes, beginning) of a line that addresses unique hair issues of specific hair textures, curl patterns, hair density and porosity.

I personally use clays in my beauty regimen. Since I'm a firm believer in no-poo cleansing for curly/kinky/coily hair types, I have found a mineral-rich alternative: clays. Some of the best clays in the world deposit trace minerals such as silica, potassium, calcium and sulfur -- minerals essential to hair and skin growth and health. In fact, some of these minerals can aid in hair growth and strengthen hair for retention by preventing hair loss and breakage!! So, I've created a line with pour-on clay washes and deep conditioning mud pacs.

The combinations of botanicals, light oils and extracts are antiseptic, anti-bacterial and nourishing to hair follicles and the hair shaft to encourage blood circulation, strength and growth. Homemade living is a dying art. Many old ways in the world have faded into the shadow of modern convenience and technology. Just yesterday my artist friend discovered she couldn't buy a special kind of Asian silk with hand-rolled hems because the skill is dying out with aging craftsmen and women.
I'm a writer, journalist, former cosmetologist, amateur naturalist and founder of Aunt Lucy's Folk Sense (ALFS). it's currently a Wordpress blog through which I teach women tips, tricks and how-to's of "edible" organic beauty; and the health, beauty and economic benefits of making their own beauty products.This brand has no equal! Following the development of my product line, I'm launching new projects in 2015:
ALFS Website -- ALFS has already outgrown it's wordpress.com template. It's time to design a stand-alone site that will provide a compiled database of organic ingredients such as herbs, essential oils, butters, waxes, oils, etc. The database will also include a comprehensive list of ingredients -- raw, organic and derivative -- commonly used in manufactured and homemade cosmetics. In addition, site visitors will be able to find detailed instructions on how to make their own lotions, tinctures, balms, hair gels, shampoos, etc. plus new and exciting hair, skin, body and fragrance tips and secrets from around the world addressing the specific beauty needs of all ethnicities! This would be the first of its kind!
With the funds raised here, I can pay for hosting, purchase the best template (I currently use Headway) and begin site design. ALFS Pinterest and Instagram Recipes Platforms -- Unlike ALFS' other social media platforms, both Pinterest and Instagram will require better quality original photo production and photo-editing. That means I need better camera and editing equipment than I currently have. These should be up and running in early 2015.

YouTube Channel Pre-Production -- It's inevitable. Aunt Lucy's Folk Sense will need to provide video tutorials for recipes, tips and detailed visual explanations of my "beauty layering" approach to skin, hair and body care. While the YouTube launch won't happen until year's end 2015, I have to prepare original music (I already have the musician in mind), art, photography, animated logo, production design and scriptwriting/editing. Good thing I'm a scriptwriter!
Including the first $2,000 for the product lines, I'm raising $8,000 for publishing costs, equipment, software, research materials, contract virtual assistance and photography, art and a list of organic raw ingredients, materials and supplies for visually engaging web and video tutorials.
Why I'm Doing This
I strongly believe the human body functions at its best when we feed it and care for it with organic ingredients as it was intended. That includes our appearance. Aunt Lucy's Folk Sense is committed to homemade healthy beauty care to enhance your natural beauty.
