Bills and a New Engine

Donation protected
Chris and I haven't talked very much about it, but for the past several months, we have hit a pretty deep rough patch financially.  My hours have been cut back rather severely at work, and though I'm trying to pick up hours whenever I can there just haven't been many on offer.  I'm making nearly half of what I did before, and my job has still not offered me a full time position after more than two years.

Just last week we took our car to an oil change place, and within a few miles of the place, the car developed a rod knock.  The oil change place claimed after the fact that they had heard a noise when we pulled in, but didn't say anything at the time and didn't note anything on the work order.  When we tried to speak to the owner to at least get a refund on the oil change, he was abusive and cursed at us.  We are currently checking our legal options, which might end up in more bills.  Several people knowledgable with cars have stated that they do think that the oil change place had something to do with the rod knock.  The car is currently unsafe to drive and will cost at least $1500 to repair.

We are also behind on rent, as well as other household bills.  And just recently I got into an accident while on my bike, which really reiterates the need for me to get my brakes fixed, which is of course, more money.  And all this while we're trying desperately to save some money for our wedding next year, and we need to get money together to put deposits down on locations and vendors.

On top of everything, I recently had to take a trip to the emergency room for spider bites which ended in a bill more than $700.

If I had let things go unchecked, I could have easily developed sepsis or a MRSA infection and without meaning to be dramatic, it was a very serious situation that could have turned out VERY bad. I've haven't been able to schedule a follow up appointment right now, because we honestly can't afford the additional bill.

It seems that unfortunately Murphy's law is hitting us at just about the worst time possible.  We understand that everyone seems to be hitting hard times, so I don't expect that everyone can just throw us money to help us out.  But if there is anything you can spare, it would be so appreciated, you have no idea.

And if you can't spare anything, please, just pass the word on.  Let other people know and maybe they can help.  At this point, I'm trying to keep us in our house with the lights turned on and get the car fixed so that Chris isn't having to take Detroit city buses at 6am and 11pm at night, especially since he has to walk to the stops. We haven't been too vocal about this because honestly, it's embarrassing.  I just figured that at this point, why not at least take advantage of an available option? Anything that can spared will help us out.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give us.
