CC Greens Organic Farm: Our Mission
We believe more people want to eat organically, but the higher price of organic and organically-grown food prohibits them from doing so. We want to change that.
CC Greens Organic Farm will raise fresh, locally-produced, non-GMO, organically-grown salad greens, herbs, microgreens, edible flowers, tomatoes, peppers, squash, eggplant, cucumbers, melons and strawberries. These items will be sold to restaurants, universities, schools, hospitals, retirement homes, grocery stores, at local farmer’s markets seasonally, through our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) and in our CC Greens year-round farmers market located in the retail store near our greenhouse on the same property. Our initial delivery radius will be 2 hours around the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area, but will expand as we grow.
All of our plants will be grown either aeroponically or hydroponically which uses up to 95% less water than traditional soil farming. Our greenhouse(s) will be almost exclusively operated using solar power. We will only use organic pest control measures and cleaning products in our greenhouse(s). This is as much for the safety of our clients, customers and staff as it is for the environment.
While there currently is locally-grown produce available, both organically-grown and traditionally farmed, CC Greens’ diverse selection, same-day delivery, year-round farmer’s market, year-round CSA availability and year-round home delivery* subscription availability (*available in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area only) will set us apart from our competitors and will ultimately allow us to expand and be able to help even more individuals and families to eat and enjoy more fresh, locally-raised, organically-grown produce.
CC Greens Organic Farm will raise non-GMO, organically-grown produce which we can tailor to the needs of our clients. We will be able to harvest this produce in the morning and deliver it that same morning or early afternoon to our clients. None of our produce will be refrigerated and stored; it will always be harvested fresh right before it is delivered to clients. We will be able to and are willing to grow a unique selection of produce not generally offered in the Midwest and many of these plants can be harvested as "living plants" meaning that the roots will still be attached. Leaving the roots attached enables the produce to last longer and retain its flavor after it has been harvested. We will be able to produce 365 days a year. We will price our produce as competitively as possible, allowing us to reach as many hands and mouths as we can. The more people eating healthier, the better for all involved.
We already have 4 restaurants and 3 grocery stores who want to order from us weekly and some have provided lists of what they will be ordering weekly.
I have a bank who will back the SBA (Small Business Administration) loans I'll need to open CC Greens. I have started this GoFundMe campaign to raise the down payment I need to secure the SBA funding. All funds raised will go directly toward that down payment. Any funds raised in excess of my goal will be used to reduce the SBA loan amount needed to open CC Greens Organic Farm.
