The Catskill Sustainable Agriculture & Permaculture                                                 Farm School

Please support us in developing the Catskill Sustainable Agriculture & Permaculture Farm School.  The Farm will be used to provide a space for youth living in Brownsville, Brooklyn and similar communities in New York City, to learn about sustainable farming and permaculture systems.

Tucked away in the bucolic Catskill Mountains of New York State,  We are holistic, minority farmers creating a sustainable farming and permaculture project with a goal of passing on sustainable and holistic living skills to the young people that do not have access to or knowledge about growing their food.

Sustainable farming is all about a system of farming that produces incredible abundance of food from a small area of land, sustainably grown with an extremely low carbon footprint and very high biodiversity, which helps to create the beautiful positive relationship with nature. Permaculture is all about living lightly on the earth, in a way that is in harmony with nature.

We have already acquired the farm land, and now we want to share. with as many youth as possible. the skills needed for healthy, sustainable and low impact living, such as eco-building, sustainable farming, permaculture gardening, homesteading, herbalism, bee-keeping and foraging. We will provide workshops teaching self-sufficiency skills on an ongoing basis, along with a summer apprenticeship offered to those students that express a desire to take these skills to the next level. become food advocates, and give back to their communities within the five boroughs of NYC.

Our desire is for these workshops to be free of charge and based on a sliding scale, because most existing farming & permaculture courses are too expensive for many people to consider for themselves and/or for their children to attend. And with so many people struggling to make ends meet in a time of financial uncertainty, we believes sustainable farming and permaculture projects like this have never been more important

(example of what we are developing)

This project will work towards fulfilling the needs of others and instilling in young people the forgotten skill of growing their own food, and living in balance with nature.  True freedom is found in the security of growing your own food, making sure you can take care of yourself, create and be an productive member of a supportive, concious community  and all the while honoring mother earth. It’s even more relevant than ever to ensure people, especially the inner city youth, have this knowledge and understanding.

(example of what we are developing)

The money raised will go towards creating rainwater harvest systems,  land and soil cultivation, development of a food forest, bee hives and purchasing materials to create a geodesic growing space and a straw bale, cob wall classroom to host lessons and discussions, and making this learning opportunity free, free, free.
