Update:  blog is at http://www.carpartmentblog.wordpress.com

I'm Ashley.  Recently I had a shake up in my life (I'll spare you the messy details) which made me be able to reset my life compass to point at the things I do TRULY love, not just the daily grind.  I love travel. I love making art.  These are the things I've always needed to do.

On the travel front, I have turned my stationwagon into a home, complete with bed, kitchen, wardrobe, and art studio.  All in a space which is 4ft by 6ft.  I've found some nontraditional solutions to limited space on a budget. I've decorated and made it cozy taking as little space as possible.  I've gone through the items multiple times, evaluating needs vs wants, necessity vs luxury (I ended up deciding that 2 hats were a luxury.  So I had to decide between hats).    Honestly just building the home and taking into account living space has been a journey in and of itself.  So I am ready to travel and share my travels with the world through a blog.

On the art front, I have levelled at myself what I am calling "The Picasso Challenge".  Picasso made 50,000 pieces of art in his lifetime.  I aim to meet or beat it.  This requires me to make 3 pieces a day, for the rest of my life.  While I am traveling I will be adding three pictures a day to an art journal and posting them online.

I've planned, and planned, and planned.  I've created a route throughout the national parks of the west  which would take 5 months to accomplish.  I will be visiting:

The Great Salt Plains
Bottomless Lakes State Park
White Sands National Monument
The Trinity Site
Tent Rocks National Monument in the Valles Caldera
Petrified Forest National Park
The Sonoran Desert National Monument
Vermillion Cliffs National Monument
Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument
Bryce Canyon National Park
Zion National Park
Basin and Range National Monument
Gold Butte National Monument
Valley of Fire State Park
Mojave National Preserve
Joshua Tree National Park
Death Valley National Park
Yosemite National Park
The Lower-Oregon Upper-California Pacific Coast
Mima Mounds Natural Area Preserve
Mt St Helens
Mt Rainer
Ginko Petrified Forest
John Day Fossil Beds
Bonneville Salt Flats
Antelope Island (Great Salt Lake)
Yellowstone National Park
Badlands National Park

aaaaaand, if we reach the stretch goal of 9,000 I will head up to the tippity top of Minnesota to see/draw/write about Voyageurs National Park.

Based on this route I've created a budget. I've racked my brain for every possible problem, and So I'm set to go, but I need your help to drive.

I have 2 things I need help with.  Being able to afford the life on the road initially, (I'm hoping after this maiden voyage that I will be able to support myself from blogging my travels), while still being able to provide for my current obligations.  I could make a very cheap life on the road, but that still doesn't keep lights on, water running, and food in the refrigerator.

The only way I can really repay anyone's kindness in this will be to let them share the adventure and art with me through the internet with blog posts, photos, and video.  I will post twice a day, one post of travel and one post of art.  My first few posts will be devoted solely on how to create a living space in such a small space.

So that is what I have to give in exchange, now what do I need...?
The financial breakdown:

Gas: $1800

Food and Essentials:  $2000  ($100 a week, overflow goes to gas to see more things :D)

Admission to Parks: $200 ( $80 of which is the national park pass)

So the total to live on the road for 5 months is $4000.  Not bad right?

The problem here is that I still have to be able to care for my current obligations, which would require about $800 a month.  Which would come to another $4000.

$8000 is all that stands between myself and the open road.

I never thought it could be this close, and cannot imagine what it would be like to make that final leap.  From the Captains seat

All cozied up with curtains closed.

Roxanne, my vehicular companion and soon to be home.

Kitchen and studio.

Bed and wardrobe.

The whole setup! After my first few overnights, it actually feels spacious!
